CENTER FOR OLD MUSIC ALL-JOSQUIN CONCERT

The Center for Old Music in the New World presents a spring concert of works by Josquin desPrez on Saturday, May 22.  Josquin is considered by many to be the greatest of Renaissance composers.  A contemporary of Leonardo da Vinci, he was known in the 16th century as “the Prince of Music.”

Several of Josquin’s great motets will be performed by the Center’s 16-member vocal ensemble, including his 4-part setting of “Ave Maria” and a 6-part setting of the Psalm “Miserere mei Deus” (“Have mercy upon me, O God”).

A selection of Josquin’s secular works — chansons and frottole — will also be performed with voices and instruments including lute, viols, recorders and portative organ.

The Center’s all-Josquin concert is being presented at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, and begins at 8:00 pm.  The church is located at 2025 Bellefonte Road (between Zandale Drive and Lowry Lane).  Tickets will be sold at the door for $10 with discounts available for seniors and students.  Call the Center for Old Music at 269-2908 for further information.
